Abstract

Climate change has become one of the most difficult problems facing the environment. Global warming is caused by social activities, such as burning fossil fuels and abrupt changes in land use, with severe consequences on human settlements worldwide. Judging by the way it manifests, global warming is a major problem facing urban centers of all sizes. Urban areas are the main sources of greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions, of which 72% of the total GHG emitted consists of carbon dioxide, 18% methane gas and 9% nitrous oxide. Carbon dioxide emissions play the most crucial factor in global warming and they are increasing each year almost 3% each year. The Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) has developed a methodology to estimate the GHGs emissions including the water sector.
