Abstract

Because in the city of Deva there are not major industry consumer and assuming that the night domestic consumption is very small (between 1 and 3 in the morning), most of the nightly water quantities were considered to be physical losses (both on the side of the network and the consumers). This assumption was verified numerous times by monitoring the night flow: each time a leak occurred it was clearly shown in the value of the minimum night flow. In the year 2012 only one pressure zone of the network had a constant minimum night flow close to 0 l/s because it was recently rehabilitated (from reservoir Bejan). At this moment in the year 2015 another two pressure zones (Cozia and Santuhalm) have a minimum constant night flow close to 0 l/s due to persistent actions undertaken by the water company. During the entire monitoring period, significant results were obtained : 18% drop in raw water intake, 20% savings in treated water, 25% savings in distributed water in Deva (2,600,000 m3/year less than 2 years ago) and the same drop in percentage for intake of the wastewater plant.
