Abstract

Water footprint for a municipal water treatment plant can be defined as the total volume of fresh water used directly or indirectly to obtain drinking water. Water use quantification in a water treatment plant provides a new perspective for developing a strategy for responsible consumption of water, and also drives to the adoption of new treatment technologies, in order to reduce water consumption. The goal of this paper is to develope a theory for calculating water consumption at a municipal water treatment plants, in order to determine the amount of fresh water required to obtain potable water.
