Abstract

The aim of this paper is to examine the economic behavior of Spanish investments in Latin America (LA). A theoretical exploration of the determinants of expansion of these investments from 1993 to 2014 is performed and the statistical evolution of these investment flows is examined. It is found that the main forms of expansion have been mergers, acquisitions, and public-private partnerships mainly in the sectors of financial services, telecommunications; supply of electricity, gas and water; extraction of crude oil and natural gas; insurance and pension funds.
