Abstract

Este trabajo pretende determinar la dirección de la relación que existe entre educación y pobreza urbanas en un departamento de Colombia, y el proceso mediante el cual los beneficios de la educación contribuyen para la superación de la pobreza. Para tal efecto se emplean modelos estructurales. Los resultados sugieren que la educación y la pobreza se retroalimentan. Además, aunque la inversión en capital urbano a través de la educación es un factor clave para mejorar el ingreso de las personas, por sí sola no es suficiente para erradicar la pobreza, pues es necesario que exista un ambiente macroeconómico favorable para que las personas pobres educadas pueden mejorar sus condiciones de vida vía ingresos.
