Análisis de las tasas de homicidio, un estudio para países latinoamericanos y europeos

Abstract

El homicidio es un problema serio dentro de la sociedad. En muchas ocasiones es un reflejo del estado de la economía de un país y es importante conocer los factores que influyen sobre este. Esta investigación se centra en analizar el efecto que provoca la desigualdad de ingresos (Índice de Gini) en las tasas de homicidio. Para el efecto se toma a los cinco países con las tasas de homicidio más altas de Latinoamérica y Europa. Los datos forman un panel y comprenden el periodo 2000 – 2018. Se utiliza regresiones de umbral. Los resultados indican que la desigualdad influye sobre las tasas de homicidio hasta que su valor es de 40,60, luego que lo supera otros factores toman protagonismo. Las implicaciones de política pública apuntan a que se debe reducir la desigualdad y la pobreza para controlar este problema.
