Gasto público y su efecto en la desigualdad de Ecuador

Abstract

El objetivo de la presente investigación es examinar la relación entre el gasto público y la desigualdad en Ecuador. Para estimar dicha relación, utilizamos una larga muestra de datos de series de tiempo del periodo comprendido de 1965 a 2014 obtenidos de la base de datos del World Development Indicators del Banco Mundial (2017). Los resultados encontrados indican que el gasto público y la desigualdad tienen una relación negativa y estadísticamente significativa, aunque también existen otros factores que reducen la desigualdad. Una posible implicación de política pública derivada de la presente investigación es que el estado debería generar mecanismos de tributación y redistribución efectivos y que fomenten la igualdad de oportunidades priorizando educación, salud, y acceso a otros servicios básicos.
