Relación entre el emprendimiento y la pobreza en Ecuador: un enfoque cantonal utilizando técnicas de econometría espacial

Abstract

El objetivo de esta investigación es analizar el efecto del emprendimiento en la pobreza de Ecuador a nivel cantonal. Utilizamos datos de corte transversal del Censo Nacional Económico (CENEC) 2010 elaborado por el Instituto Nacional de Estadísticas y Censo (INEC). La variable dependiente es la pobreza medida por las Necesidades Básicas Insatisfechas (NBI) y la variable independiente es el emprendimiento medido por el número de empresas que nacieron en los últimos cinco años. Además aplicamos un enfoque cantonal para capturar la heterogeneidad territorial entre los cantones. Los resultados encontrados muestran que el emprendimiento afecta significativamente en la pobreza. Para capturar las características estructurales de los cantones se incluyó un conjunto de variables de control tales como: migración interna neta, índice de acceso a los servicios básicos, escolaridad, nivel de ventas, empleo y exportaciones; resultando estadísticamente significativas las variables de índice de acceso a los servicios básicos, escolaridad, empleo y exportaciones. Las implicaciones de política derivadas de la presente investigación es que las políticas orientadas a promover el emprendimiento pueden ayudar a reducir la pobreza.
