Causes, Effects And Control Measures For Cyberbullying Among University Undergraduates In Kwara State

Abstract

This study examined causes, effects, and control measures for cyberbullying among university undergraduates in Kwara State. The population for this study was undergraduates in Universities in Kwara State. This study adopted a descriptive survey design, 200 undergraduates were sampled through a simple random technique. A researcher-designed questionnaire was used as an instrument to elicit data from the respondents. The findings of this study revealed that some certain ages such as teens due to immaturity, gender differences, seeking revenge, or being motivated by revenge, etc. are the causes of cyberbullying. Among the recommendations is that students should avoid criticism, harassment, posting hurtful messages, sending mean messages, and spreading rumors. It was also recommended that school management should continually educate students on the effects of cyber-bullying and that students should report any of their colleagues who cyber-bully them to the school management
