Abstract

Sigara gönümüzde hem birey hem de toplum sağlığı açısından oldukça önemli sorunlara neden olmaktadır. Sigaranın bağımlılık yapıcı bazı maddeler barındırması özellikle genç yaşlarda sigara ile tanışan bireylerin ilerleyen yıllarda sigaraya bağımlı hale gelmesine neden olmaktadır. Bu durum sigaranın önlenmesi için erken yaşların önemine dikkat çekmektedir. Dolayısıyla, bu çalışmanın amacı Çukurova Üniversitesi öğrencilerinin sigara tüketiminin araştırılmasıdır. Öğrencilerin sigara tüketimi Heckman’ın iki aşamalı yöntemi kullanılarak araştırılmıştır. Çalışmada 300 öğrenciye uygulanan anket verileri kullanılmıştır. Elde edilen sonuçlar, artan gelirin sigara tüketimindeki artıştan daha fazla olduğunu göstermektedir. Bunun dışında, stres ve sakinleştirmek gibi psikolojik etmenlerin yanında ailede sigara içenlerin varlığı sigara tüketimini arttırdığı sonucuna ulaşılmıştır.
