Las desigualdades intrarregionales y la reducción de la pobreza en la región Chorotega

Abstract

Entre 1994 y 2009 la región Chorotega mostró una importante reducción en la incidencia de la pobreza vista como una situación de ingresos insuficientes. No obstante, esa incidencia sigue siendo una de las más elevadas entre las regiones del país. A partir de la utilización de una serie de indicadores de desarrollo/pobreza y características propias de la región, se comprueba que la persistencia de elevados niveles de pobreza se explica por la existencia al interior de la región de una serie de desigualdades de diferente naturaleza: económicas, sociales, geográficas, y otras. Se realizan recomendaciones para lograr avances aún mayores en la reducción de ese flagelo en la región.
