Estudio socioeconómico de la actividad turística en Costa Rica: un análisis distrital para el periodo 1984-2010

Abstract

El objetivo general de esta investigación fue determinar si los distritos turísticos presentaron un mejor resultado en los indicadores socioeconómicos que los distritos no turísticos entre los años 1984-2000, y realizar un análisis cualitativo para La Fortuna y Jacó hasta el 2010. Se realizaron dos cuasi-experimentos y dos análisis de caso. Los resultados de los cuasi-experimentos indican que aunque los distritos turísticos de Costa Rica presentaron una mejora socioeconómica entre los años 1984 y 2000, dicho cambio no fue significativamente distinto al presentado en los distritos no turísticos, en otras palabras, un distrito en el cual se desarrolló de manera importante el turismo no tuvo una mejora socioeconómica diferente a otro distrito en el cual se desarrolló alguna otra actividad productiva. Se establecieron hipótesis que pueden explicar este resultado y se exploraron mediante los estudios de caso.
