Supervisión Bancaria En Los Estados Unidos: Valoración De Los Efectos Económicos De Medidas Correctivas En El Desempeño Bancario

Abstract

En este documento de investigación se estudian los efectos de la ley de 1991 denominada “Prompt Corrective Action” (PCA) en el Sistema Bancario de los Estados Unidos. La medida fundamentalmente busca regular aquellos bancos con tasas bajas de capital. Dos estrategias son combinadas para propiamente identificar estos efectos económicos en el sector bancario. En primer lugar, el diseño de la política por sí misma permite la apropiada valoración de su impacto, al crear el medio ideal para emplear la metodología de diferencias en diferencias. En segundo lugar, empleamos la técnica de Propensity Score Matching para seleccionar adecuadamente en una escala multivariada el grupo de control experimental. La combinación de estos dos elementos permite identificar y valorar la magnitud del impacto de la medida de regulación según se discute en el documento.
