La misión Kemmerer

Abstract

Han pasado 75 años desde que el profesor Edwin Kemmerer arribó al Perú en enero de 1931. Desde entonces muchas cosas cambiaron para el Banco Central. Este extracto, reproducido de la obra "Historia de la República del Perú", de Jorge Basadre publicada por El Comercio, cuenta los primeros pasos de la política monetaria, el banco de emisión y el uso del billete en la época republicana. A continuación, casi 100 años después, relata las recomendaciones de la misión Kemmerer, en momentos en que el Perú atravesaba una crisis devaluatoria. Es a partir de entonces, en que surge el Banco Central de Reserva del Perú tal y como se conoce actualmente, sobre la base del antiguo Banco de Reserva.
