ArcelorMittal en México: Integración industrial y flexibilidad productiva

Abstract

Entre los años 2001 al 2009 se constituyó ArcelorMittal como el consorcio siderúrgico de mayor presencia a nivel mundial y, junto con ello, se integraron como complejo industrial las plantas acereras establecidas en Lázaro Cárdenas, Michoacán. En el año 2006 AcelorMittal Lázaro Cárdenas (AMLC) se erige en el complejo de mayor producción de acero en México El objetivo del presente artículo es revisar la situación de AMLC a diez años de su instauración, cuando ha cobrado mayor importancia y transcendencia en el mercado mundial. Por un lado, las distintas plantas segmentadas desde su creación fueron, finalmente, integradas como un complejo industrial; a la vez que fue incorporado a la red global del conglomerado AcelorMittal. Por otra parte, la gestión industrial del complejo se integró a las pautas de flexibilización exigidas por su situación y lugar en el mercado internacional. Los métodos de la flexibilidad se hicieron patentes en particular en los procesos de la producción, en la organización del trabajo y en las relaciones laborales.
