Emisiones de dióxido de carbono en América Latina Un aporte al estudio del cambio climático

Abstract

Existe amplio consenso en que las mayores concentraciones de gases de efecto invernadero en la troposfera provienen de la actividad humana. En este contexto, las emisiones de dióxido de carbono (CO2 ) juegan un rol preponderante, puesto que son la principal causa del calentamiento global. Este trabajo examina los determinantes de las emisiones antropogénicas de CO2 en los países latinoamericanos durante el período 1982-2004. Los resultados confirman la relevancia del modelo IPAT (Impact Population Affluence Technology) y muestran que la eficiencia energética y el marco institucional afectan el nivel de emisiones y deberían ser especialmente tenidos en cuenta en el diseño de la política ambiental para alcanzar la senda del desarrollo sustentable.
