Abstract

Se aborda en este estudio la instrumentación del índice de Foster, Greer y Thorbecke (FGT), con la finalidad de conocer los niveles e intensidad de la pobreza extrema en el Estado de Michoacán y sus municipios. El tratamiento además se realiza a escala nacional, ello con la finalidad de realizar un análisis comparativo que nos permita conocer la situación que guarda el Estado de Michoacán y sus municipios en materia de bienestar social durante el período 1980 - 2000. A través del índice FGT conocemos el grado de carencias del consumo individual, así como los niveles de pobreza, derivados éstos a partir de la obtención de líneas de pobreza individual, en cuyo tratamiento metodológico el salario mínimo diario, la población total y la población económicamente activa tienen un papel fundamental.
