Abstract

México enfrenta profundos contrastes y graves polarizaciones sociales a pesar del progreso social que revelan las cifras macroeconómicas reportadas por el gobierno.Baste señalar que el mismo Banco Mundial ha proporcionado cifras que dan cuenta del incremento en la pobreza de los mexicanos y, por otra parte, se sabe que México se encuentra entre los doce países que concentran el ochenta por ciento de los pobres en el mundo. Ante ello, los autores señalan que el modelo económico instaurado por el gobierno esta en una situación de rotundo fracaso y ante el inicio del siglo XXI México, junto con su nuevo gobierno, deberá enfrentar entre otros los siguientes desafíos: terminar el proceso de la transición del modelo económico de crecimiento sostenido en una economía de mercado abierta y competitiva; consolidar el cambio democrático; y activar el principio de justicia social.
