Determinantes del flujo de remesas en Mexico, un analisis empirico

Abstract

Este documento analiza las variables macroeconomicas que determinan el flujo de remesas familiares de Estados Unidos a Mexico. Se expone una hipotesis fundamentada en una amplia revision de la teoria sobre flujo de remesas y se efectua un ejercicio econometrico mediante Vectores Autorregresivos con Correccion de Errores (VARCCE) para identificar desde una perspectiva sintetica, los determinantes de largo plazo de las remesas familiares que llegan a Mexico. El analisis empirico presenta evidencia de que las remesas son consecuencia de una decision de inversion mas que de altruismo de parte de los migrantes. Ademas, se encontro que existe una relacion inversa y significativa entre el numero de migrantes y remesas, lo cual podria ser un indicador de que la estadia de los migrantes en Estados Unidos es de muy largo plazo o permanente.
