Investments could therefore be sustained, thanks to high profits. The GDP would progress by 1 .4 % this year and by 1 .8 % next year, being hauled through 1984 by exports and through 1985 by company investments. The trade balance would straighten out and the current foreign balance would reach an equilibrium, over the next two years. A restrictive budgetary and social policy could reduce the rate of compulsory deductions and could limitate government deficits to a little more than 3 % of the GDP. On the other hand, employment would continue to decline in 1984. The unemployment level would reach 2.5 millions at the end of 1984 and 2.65 millions at the end of 1985.
