Abstract

[eng] North-South Trade : the Special Effects of China The opening of trade between China and the advanced countries leads normally to a general increase in welfare, with, because of factor endowments, a specialization of advanced countries in the production of sophisticated goods, a specialization of China in the production of simple goods. However China shows three specific features : a strong increase in the supply of unskilled labour, with internal migrations ; technological transfers due to trade and direct investment ; the fact that price level convergence is very slow, hence that deviations from the law of one price appear. We analyze the effects of this three specific features of China on the effects of the opening of trade between the advanced countries and China.
