Abstract

[eng] Is classical dynamics an alternative to traditional macroeconomics ? A comment on dumenil and levy models. . G. Duménil and D. Lévy have built a family of'disequilibrium dynamic models, partly designed as an alternative, based upon a Classical paradigm, to traditional macro-economies. These models make possible the existence of « stationary disequilibria », of stagnation or overheating, which are viewed as the starting point of an analysis of the business cycle. Existence of such stationary disequilibria follows, according to the authors, from non-linearities of the System nnder consideration. In fact, at a deeper level, it is due to decomposability of that system into a real and a monetary sector, the same kind of decomposability that we find in the Neoclassical dichotomy. Because of this dichotomy, a disequilibrium may persist along a stationary path, the influence of price adjustments upon the economy being restricted to nominal effects.
