Abstract

[eng] Population variables versus international trade:. Two explanations of development. P. Guillaumont. Population variables (growth rate of the population, fertility rate) and international trade (foreign trade, capital investment) are used in literature in a totally independent way in order to explain underdevelopment and development. This independence, which is partly ideological at its origins, and the resulting anatytical impoverishment are brought to light in connection with those three factors which constitute development : growth, savings rate (a factor of future growth) and incarne distribution. A joint study of the role of these two types of variables is therefore necessary.
