Abstract

[eng] The world trade in wood and wood-based products (logs, sawnwood, panels, paste, paper and paperboard), essentially concerning the developed market economies and particularly open, is one of those where the international competition on prices is very strong. The necessity of reducing costs of transport and redeeming high investments to satisfy an increasing demand with important transactions has become a great advantage for developing exports from the major producers of coniferous species in the North. Speaking of the E.E.C., it has to import about 60% of its needs, and must be considered as an important buyer for which Scandinavian and north-american countries are competing together.
