Abstract

[fre] Cet article rend compte des principales conclusions d'une étude portant sur l'évolution de la population et de ses activités économiques dans une commune du Briançonnais (période de 1846 à 1975). . Ce travail montre la nécessité d'utiliser différents types de statistiques. Le seul recours aux soldes globaux des recensements de population se révèle insuffisant car ceux-ci recouvrent des évolutions de sens opposés. De plus les catégories statistiques elles-mêmes méritent d'être remises en cause car elles portent la marque de la société dans laquelle elles sont élaborées et la place particulière des sociétés montagnardes dans la société globale. En particulier l'importance réelle de l'agriculture se révèle plus grande qu'elle n'apparaissait au départ, de même le rôle des femmes et des aides-familiaux est sous-estimé.
