Abstract

[eng] Rationalizing of pig production in state-aided farms in Côtes du Nord (Brittany) from 1965 to 1972 - A co-study with the CERAFER has enabled us to observe in the department of Côtes du Nord, the effects of State aid upon the creation of pig-farms. . These state-subsidies come to affect several levels : . — the unit, first (buildings, production process from breeding to fattening) ; . — the farm management too (evolution, either complementary or concurrent speculations) ; . — Finally, the question arises : will the volume of production keep bring adapted to the demand, now and in the years to come ? . Progresses have become evident ; the pig production has got more rationalised. However, much remains to be done; farmers must now get used to livestock and business managements. . On the other hand, disparities between farmers have still increased : only 4 % of them -- and most of the wealthiest -- are state aided : small farms are consequently led to disappear all the more rapidly : are such programms worth such a social cost ?
