Abstract

. Classification JEL : F15, N14 [eng] Recapturing the spirit of the Treaty of Rome . In this interview, Michel Albert reviews the circumstances surrounding the creation of the Treaty of Rome and how it was perceived in France. He describes the historical context of the negotiations and the nature of the compromises to which they led (particularly the compromise between a Political Europe and an Economic Europe founded on the concept of a common market and the challenges it raised). He also revisits the first years of the Treaty’s implementation and pays tribute to both the Treaty’s designers and the work carried out by the European Commission. . JEL classification : F15, N14
