Abstract

. These distributors are abandoning their once proprietary business models in favor of open architecture so they can offer a broader range of product along with critically needed advisory services. And independent manufacturers fight aggressively to get inside that new architecture and place their own product on the distributors’ shelves. However, open architecture without adequate advice has proven to be problematic. Investors, still wary after the recent market bust, and daunted by the overwhelming range and complexity of products available through the distributors, now demand much higher quality advice. The ability to complement a wider array of quality products with personalized advisory solutions is the key ingredient in better serving the needs of individual investors. .
