Abstract

[eng] French banks in the European competition . French banks now turn into profit their efforts, which are implemented since the last two decades. During this period, they have improved their running conditions, their profitability, increasing their solvency and usually implementing the same standards of management as their European or international competitors. These changes have been associated with large reorganizations. Among European countries, France knew most of mergers between big banks. This article presents a useful survey of these two past decades’ changes to assess the present competitiveness of French banks in Europe. . . Classification JEL : F36, G21, G34
