L’avenir de l’Union monétaire ouest-africaine (UMOA)

Abstract

[eng] during the 1980' s undermined economic foundations of the Franc Zone. 50 the monetary aurhoriry of the Union decided, January Il th 1994, to change the pariry CFA Franc/ French Franc to reduce economic and financial imbalances and to contribute to restore macroeconomic stabiliry all-around the Zone. In the sa me way, Union's member states are steering an economic integration to ensure the monetary union's durabiliry. T en years after the change of CFA Franc' s pariry, this article analyses the past evolutions and the future prospects of the Franc Zone. . lEL classification : E42, F32, F33, 055 . . . [fre] L'évolution de l'UMOA témoigne de son adaptation aux mutations de l'environnement international et de la conjoncture des États, Toutefois, la crise économique et financière à laquelle elle a été confrontée durant les années 1980 a fragilisé les fondements économiques du franc CFA. Aussi, les Hautes autorités monétaires de l'Union ont-elles pris la décision, le 11 janvier 1994, de modifier la parité de cette monnaie vis-à-vis du franc français, en vue de juguler les déséquilibres économiques et financiers et de contribuer à rétablir la stabilité macroéconomique, dans l'ensemble de la zone.. Parallèlement, les États membres de l'Union se sont engagés dans une dynamique d'intégration de leurs économies, convaincus qu'elle constitue le gage de la pérennité de l'Union monétaire, Dix ans après la modification de la parité du FCFA, il paraît opportun d'apprécier le chemin parcouru et, surtout, d'envisager les perspectives d'avenir de la zone. .
