Abstract

[eng] Banking economics needs a conceptual revival . This article exposes last theoretical progresses in banking economics. Results are mixed. More studied concepts (economies of scale, entry barrier...) do not lead to very explicit conclusions. On the other hand, some concepts seems to be neglected. This article highlights then seven essential concepts to reform the banking theory : risk, integration/merging, efficiency, corporate governance, banking « businesses », mutual system and protectionism. This study of a « new banking economics » presents some still inadequately investigated researches. . . Classification JEL : G21
