Places financières et concurrence entre marchés boursiers

Abstract

[fre] Cet article présente les enjeux, les formes et la nature de la concurrence entre marchés boursiers, qui sont devenus des entreprises commerciales comme les autres. La recherche d’alliances entre marchés, voire de fusions, apparaît comme une conséquence directe de l’apparition de nouvelles formes de concurrence (marchés de gré à gré, système électronique de transactions). L’exemple d’Euronext, première fusion entre bourses européennes, en termes d’annonce et d’intégration verticale, est éclairant : pour répondre au défi de la concurrence, et aux attentes des acteurs des différentes places, Euronext va offrir un seul système de transaction, un seul système de compensation et une seule plate-forme de règlement-livraison. Face à ces évolutions (technologiques en particulier), le concept de localisation géographique des activités financières perd de son sens. Néanmoins, la notion de place financière se recompose autour de critères différents : elle devient un pôle créateur de règles, regroupant différents acteurs se soumettant à ces règles et adoptant les mêmes comportements. . Classification JEL : G18, L19 [eng] Financial Centres and Competition. This article deals with increased competition between financial centres, which leads to mergers, as is the case with Euronext. Due to technological changes, the concept of geographic location seems to fade away ; however, the financial centre becomes now a place where the actors accept to play by the same rules. .
