Abstract

[eng] The paper presents a short overview on technological catching up at a sectoral level. By contrast with the current studies which assess this phenomenon, we consider an equation of productivity derived from the wellknown Fabricant's Law which contains a catching up variable. With OECD data (for 1976-1989) our estimations confirm the relevance of a sectoral approach of catching up. Our main result is : there are national patterns for catching up in France and Germany (the industrial sectors with a relative low level at the beginning will have an effective faster growth) but not for Japan.
