Abstract

[eng] Nowadays the network firm appears as an alternative model for vertical integration. It is constantly in touch, for numerous exchange relationships, with partners in the economy, among which PME are often to be found. Both flexible and adaptable, the network firm so thoroughly combines a set of competences while creating a kind of contractual sub-market. The implementation on territories of such an original type of firm questions a number of concepts and sets some problems to industrial economies. Actually, thanks to the progress of logistical techniques, proximity no longer appears as a prerequisite for the industrial system to operate efficiently, even if exists a « network polarization ».
