Abstract

[eng] Studies on industrial demography are traditionally devoted to the prediction of Corporate bankruptey. Small business mortality rates are, in this respect, related either to management considerations on a microeoconomic level, or to financial and policy decisions from a macroeconomic point of view. In both cases, little attention is paid to theorical explanations of business failure rates.. The aim of this paper is to propose an econometric model of sectoral competition, in which industrial firms creation and failure rates should be explained by barriers to entry and profitability ratios. Results of the application of this model to PACA productive structure are provided.
