Abstract

[eng] The stability of the shareholding and of the management, and the strees put on the harmony of the industrial relations in each countries, are important similarities between the german and japanese steel industry.. Meanwhile, the way to react to the fall of profits in their main business activity during the 70's and the 80's have been very different. In Japan, till 1981, « revitalization » of steelmaking was the main strategy. On the contrary, in FRG, the companies have rather emphasized « diversification ».. In our opinion, this difference can be explained by the environment of the firms.
