Abstract

[eng] The market power of largest firms is analysed in the logic framework of the theory of "dynamic oligopolistic equilibrium". The bases of analysis are:. a) tight definition of "relevant market", where firms are actually playing the "power-competit ion" game;. b) break-down of market structure concept in 4 salient aspects (monopoly power, duopolistic dominame, extent or density of the oligopoly, inequality or desequilibrium);. c) chromatic representation, by "the zones of Linda", according to the firms power market to be liable to threaten competition (having recourse to basic colours : red, amber, yellow, green).. The result of the "colour zones" synopsis can be quantified, the index INs being situated between 4 (maximum power structure) and 1 (competitive pattern). The chromatic approach permits also classification of all market structures in five fundamental or basic patterns: monopoly, duopoly, tight oligopoly, unbalanced partial oligopoly, competition.
