Abstract

[eng] As far as their growth and strategies are concerned, French small and medium-sized firms tend to adopt behaviors which are more rational - if not always explicit - than it is usually admitted. Beyond verbal rationalizations, many firms behave in a growth-oriented and innovative way. Growth produces such original features as "small business groups" allowing diversification and, at the same time, financial integration, thus rejecting classical and linear approaches followed by larger firms.. Yet solutions differ broadly from one firm to another. However this variety of conducts should not hide a general effort aimed at increasing both productivity and ability to meet competition.
