Abstract

[eng] This article is based upon the analysis of two samples of french industrial and trading companies whose accounts have been studied over a nine years period, clearly affected by high inflation rates.. Meeting financial requirements induced by growing needs for working capital seems to have been the most important problem.. The increasing burden of loans raised from banks, especially short run ones, may explain the fall of net profit rates, which is likely to have reduced the rate of investment in fixed assets, since 1970.. Other results are given concerning the relation between size of firms and their financial structures. We find no evidence supporting the assumption that the financial structures would improve with increasing size.
