Abstract

[eng] Abstract Thanks to about hundred letters of Henriette Victoire de Bombelles to Marc, her brother, dated of 1773 to 1775, and preserved today to the départemental archives of the Yvelines, we know the history of a noble girl that gets married at the end of the eighteen 's century. Mademoiselle de Bombelles is twenty five years old. Ancient pupil of Saint-Cyr, she looks for a husband. In 1775, she gets married with the landgrave of Hesse Rothenbourg, a man of sixty years, one-eyed, sick and little attractive. Yet, the young woman appears very happy in her correspondence. Several grounds explain this happiness conjugal: the affability of Henriette Victoire, her family's social ascension and the education that she received to Saint-Cyr.
