Abstract

[eng] Abstract During the eighteenth century, many attemps were made to improve officer training. These efforts were felt even in Toulouse, a provincial capital with no military tradition. At first sight, the toulousain officers followed a classic course of study: general training in a secondary school or with a tutor, training in horse riding and fencing in local schools, military training in a regiment or as a page, and more rarely, in a military school. However, in the 1770s, driven by certain individuals and local institutions, new establihments were opened in Toulouse, deliberately turned towards the future.
