Abstract

[eng] Abstract The Memoirs of Louis XIV occupy a relatively minor place in the political literature of the Grand Siècle. Ran Halévi examines the reasons why they remained for so long in the literary shadows. He endeavours to situate this important text not only within the history of absolutist ideology and the tradition of royal education, but also within the complex machinery of legitimacy built up by Louis XIV. Lastly, he analyses the singular light these Memoirs shed on the evanescent notion of « mysteries of the State».
