Abstract

[eng] Abstract The history of British technicians in continental Europe during the first industrial revolution has too often been studied through the reducing concept of technological dependency towards Great Britain. The Mediterranean career of Philip Taylor does reveal that what these men have provided is more varied and that their success was at least as much dependent on economic characteristics of their host countries than on their own technical and managerial skills. More than a relationship of dependency, the history of Bristish technicians in continental Europe is mainly a conjunction between two dynamisms.
