Abstract

[eng] Abstract After the war, Citroën and Peugeot are in a very different situation. With its intact factories, Citroën is ready to resume production from 1944 onwards. On the contrary, Peugeot can't produce because its factories have been plundered. However, the economic, social and politic conditions of «Reconstruction» - with notably the increasing intervention of the state - prevent Citroën from dominating French car manufactury. «Reconstruction» is both for Citroën and Peugeot, a difficult period of adaptation : a new definition of their products, a restructuration of the manufacturing techniques, a reconstitution of the financial balances, and even a better understanding of the new social wishes are the principal stakes for car manufacturers. Citroën and Peugeot risk their future and that of private car manufacture.
