Abstract

[eng] Leaving School between 1976 and 1986. Young People Were More and More Qualified - A growing number of teenagers went on studying after they had turned 16, the minimum legal age when one is allowed to leave school. They remained longer within the school system, even if more of them sometimes had to repeat a year. New possibilities were offered, in particular to the pupils of technical secondary schools, to enable them to have access to a better standard of training, such as reorientation classes and technical baccalauréats (secondary school-leaving exam). . Due to longer schooling, the young reached a higher level of qualification. A larger number of them went on studying after their baccalauréat. In higher education, the type of courses that developed most were two-years technological training units following the baccalauréat, as well as schools of commerce and management. At the other extreme, a little more than a tenth of school-leavers were still totally unqualified.
