Abstract

[eng] Socîoprofessional specifics of local industrial employment : A reflection of the geographical choices of big firms - The various job categories in industrial employment are very unevenly represented across the French territory. The growing number of white collar jobs, the level of technology and the workers qualifications are the main three elements in the geographical distribution of work. . Big firms are particularly responsible for these geographical differences, because of their specialization, and because they establish their activities of decision, conception, production or commercialization in separate locations. . There are more white collar jobs in local industries in the areas where big firms established their administrative an commercial units. The presence of engineers and technicians depends both on the settlement of the big firms which operate from several establishments, and on the presence of high technology units. The workers qualifications are determined by the geographical distribution of production among the various units of big firms, and also by specializations in certain sectors which have often been there locally for a long time.
