Abstract

[eng] 500,000 people have been unemployed for more than two years - In March 1986, one quarter of the jobless had been unemployed for more than two years: above all older workers, more and more adult men and women, and even young people. As the waiting period is prolonged, the youngest and the most well-off gradually ajust. For lack of anything better, they accept to work part-time or to take any job available. Others, above all the oldest, give up looking for a job. They are excluded from the work market. . Laborers, saleswomen, office workers constitute three job types associated with three forms of feminine unemployment: frequent and long for laborers, frequent but short for saleswomen, and rare and short for office workers. Masculine unemployment first hits unskilled laborers, then skilled workers of the craftsman type. Possession of a diploma protects young people from the risk of unemployment, though this is less true for older workers.
