Abstract

[eng] Local work markets in the Nord- Pas-de-Calais - The work market is more active in the predominantly urban and tertiary zones. The two oppositions which structure the work market in the Nord-Pas-de-Calais - country/city and industry/tertiary — overlap without coinciding. The combination of urban and tertiary factors favor a rapid turnover of unemployed workers in Lille, administrative capital of the region, and in Roubaix-Tourcoing. On the other hand, in numerous cities linked to the old industrial and mining concentrations which are very affected by the crisis, such as Douai, Valenciennes or Lens, departures from unemployment are rather difficult, while entries are frequent. The expansion of the tertiary sector has given a certain dynamism to some zones of a rural nature, such as Arras and Berck-Montreuil. Conversely, in the rural zones which have a heavy industrial sector, the work market is stagnant and the length of unemployment is long.
