Abstract

[eng] Salary versus Standard of Living - The salary of an individual may be complemented by other incomes in order to make up the family income, which is in turn redivided among all the family members and thus constitutes the standard of living. Depending on the socio-professional category, the age or the function in the household of the wage-earner, a certain interrelation between the salary and the standard of living emerges. However, these interrelations remain qualitative due to the complexity of the individual circumstances of wage-earners. The position occupied by wage-earners in a breakdown in terms of salary and in terms of standard of living is the same in only one case out of two. In particular, women occupy on the average a better position in terms of living standard than in terms of salary. However, when the situation of a wage-earner is very characteristic (either a very high or a very low salary), the chances are much greater that the position in matter of salary and standard of living will coincide.
