Abstract

». . [eng] Household tasks and age groups - The « budget-time » survey provides ample information regarding individual household tasks, but to find out how these tasks are shared within the household required that additional, more specific questions be asked, such as : « who does the majority of the housework? » (and of separate tasks), « How often do you do this task? », and « How long does this task take you each time? ». The result is as expected : women, either mothers or wives, spend the most time on housework. The survey established the amount of time spent and showed how much help from the other family members the housewife can count on for various tasks. Different age groups were observed (going from young adults still living in their family to retired persons) to show as precisely as possible the changes in the distribution of tasks throughout a lifetime. It Is true, however, that factors due to age are complicated by factors due to different generations which cannot be clearly isolated in this initial survey.
